What Is York Lucky Cats?
At York Lucky Cats, they sell small glass cats in the color of the 12 birthstones, believed to bring luck to all.
Each cat is handmade by melting glass rods into the shape of a cat, these popular Lucky Cats sell for Β£8 each.
In addition, they organize a trail around York, providing clues and a brief map to locate them, making it a popular free tourist attraction and a great way to explore the town center.
My Experience On The York Cat Trail
Locating the cats was quite challenging for me. The clues were not too revealing, which I appreciated, but I wouldn’t have minded an extra hint at times.
The sculptures varied from small black cats to larger orange ones and even two-dimensional ones which was a struggle.
Number 7 I found to be the hardest, let me know at the bottom which one you thought was the hardest?
The hiding spots were clever and made for an enjoyable game that made us think.
Overall, The hiding spots were clever and made for an enjoyable game that made us think. It was entertaining, a great way to see the city and the kids and I loved it.

Things I Wish I Knew Before Starting the York Cat Trail
- I personally don’t recommend doing on weekends as town can be busy and difficult to truly enjoy it. But for many will be the only time to do it with kids.
- The Trail can take upto 2 hours to complete. Make sure you have enough time to complete
- It’s all wheelchair friendly. You may find difficulty getting down The Shambles when busy but plenty of spots to stop and rest.
- Full outdoor activity so make sure to dress appropriately.
- Toilets are located at the Shambles Market with a small cost to use.
