First Impressions
As I made my way toward the building, I was instantly drawn by its warm, southern American charm.
The exterior was grand with an outdoor drinking area and large windows offering glimpses through the windows that hinted the American adventure awaiting me inside.
Large red doors welcomed us inside and when stepping through I was blown away by the restaurant’s layout.
The wooden interior decor was everywhere, with high ceilings and a hearty vibe that filled the air with laughter.
I couldn’t help but admire the open kitchen, where the aroma of delicious dishes being prepared drew me in.
My Experience At Hickory’s Smokehouse York
The whole experience was smooth and team felt experienced even thought we was told team was still learning and the venue had only been open a couple of days.
I never felt rushed throughout my visit; instead, it was all about relaxation.
A friendly manager often came over to make conversation with our table asking questions and actually seemed interested in us and how our experience was going.
Our server Mia was amazing, introducing herself whilst offering our table popcorn and water.
She also offered to take my daughter onto the bar to make her own milkshake what they call a “milkshake master class” which was a whole experience on it own.
Everyone we spoke to was so amazingly friendly and the atmosphere that made me feel right at home!

I decided to go all out and ordered a platter for one, and wow, what a feast it was!
The spread included juicy Texas-style beef brisket, mouthwatering baby back ribs in BBQ and Memphis style, flavorful smoked pork sausage, tender pulled pork, smoked Jacob’s ladder, bourbon-glazed chicken wings, and a side of crispy fries.
The explosion of flavors and authenticity in the smoked meats was so incredible that I just couldn’t help but keep going back for more.
The smoky flavours truely transported me to Texas, and every bite felt like a new adventure.
My partner tried one of Hickory’s specials: the chicken-fried waffle. A fluffy waffle topped with crispy southern fried chicken, smoky bacon, and a drizzle of maple syrup.
The sweet and savoury taste was magical, making it an irresistible addition to our American feast.
How Much It All Costed?
In total, our bill came to £99.45, which might sound like a lot, but for the amount and quality of food we enjoyed.
Plus the fantastic experience we had, it was absolutely worth it.
Most of all, it was unbelievable that the place had only been open a couple of days and ran so professionally. I can’t wait to visit again in the summer.
