Located in Shambles Market Food Court, surrounded by a variety of food stalls like Crumbles and Kreps, Miller’s Fish & Chips immediately caught my eye.

The stall’s striking dark blue, modern exterior and unique menu stands out from all other competitors, making it a must-visit during my time in York.

My Experience At Millers Shambles Market

Squid loaded fries

Even surrounded by crowds of people, I was greeted by such a warm and inviting atmosphere created by the friendly staff.

The menu is small which allows them to perfect what they do sell and hats off to them, they have!

I like how Millers stall accepts cash and card where i though most stall would be cashless.

Additionally, I was intrigued by a contactless Google review pad, allowing customers to share their thoughts effortlessly, a feature I believe more places should adopt!

After placing my order, I received a number and waited eagerly for my order. The only challenge I encountered was finding a table to enjoy my meal once i received it, as the market can get quite busy during peak hours.

What I Ordered At Millers Shambles Market

I decided to indulge in the squid fries, which were loaded with salt and pepper squid, sprinkled with sesame seeds, drizzled with sriracha mayo, and garnished with fresh chives.

These fries were nothing short of amazing, reminding me of Christmas stall “Saint Nick’s Frites” also owned by Millers.

Jumbo fish bites

Alongside them, I ordered the Jumbo Fish Bites with a side of curry sauce. The fish bites were absolutely worth every penny.

2 pieces making up the size of a full fish, covered in a wonderfully crispy batter. The curry sauce was perfectly smooth and rich, making for a delightful combination with the fish.

How Much Did Millers Shambles Market Cost?

The squid loaded fries were priced at £9.50, the Jumbo Fish Bites at £7, and the curry sauce at £1.50, bringing my total to £18.

This is an excellent alternative to dining at a traditional restaurant in York, where a meal for two could easily exceed £40.

Here, I enjoyed a freshly prepared meal right in the heart of one of York’s most historic streets.
