My Experience and Opinions (Moxy York Hotel Review)

Relaxing Bar at Moxy Hotel
Bar at Moxy Hotel

I found the building striking and distinctive, featuring expansive glass windows that allow the vibrant Moxy logo to shine prominently at the building’s forefront.

👉 Upon entering, the lobby presents a welcoming, clean, and cozy atmosphere. The popularity of the hotel was evident, with a crowd gathered for check-in.

Despite the high demand, the staff was swift to see to everyone, ensuring a smooth process for all guests.

Once it was our turn to check-in, we were greeted by a polite and friendly staff member who offer us a complimentary punch juice from the bar.

This thoughtful gesture added a special touch to our arrival, instantly making us feel on holiday and valued as guests.

  • Non-smoking rooms
  • Full-wall window in my room
  • Modern vibe
  • Near train station
  • Clean
  • Affordable
  • Smart TV
  • Polite staff

  • Pillows too thin

When planning your stay at Moxy Hotel York, you have several booking options at your disposal. You can book in person, directly through the hotel’s official website, or via third-party platforms like Booking.com – you can book your rooms here.

💡 From a local’s perspective, let me share a personal tip – Booking your stay at Moxy Hotel ahead of time is a smart move – See availability here. It means you can often get better deals and choose from the best rooms. Plus, booking early gives you peace of mind, knowing everything’s set for your trip. This way, you might also get special offers like free breakfast or extra amenities, making your stay even better.

Our Room at Moxy Hotel York

My room was clean and well-designed, with the room filled naturally by a full-wall window.

However, I found the accommodations to be on the smaller side, particularly the bathroom, which felt cramped and could hardly accommodate more than one person at a time.

I was happy that the room included a smart TV, which went with the hotel’s modern vibe.

⚠️ Personal comfort preferences vary, and in my case, I found the mattress overly soft and the pillows too thin, which affected the quality of my sleep.

Considering that the value of a room is often graded by the quality of rest it provides, this aspect was a letdown for me.

Taking all factors into account, I would rate the room experience at a 3.5 out of 5.

Breakfast at Moxy Hotel York

Breakfast at Moxy Hotel was confined to the bar area, where we was seated to a high table more suitable for evening drinks than a morning meal.

Breakfast Area at Moxy Hotel
Breakfast Area at Moxy Hotel

It would be beneficial for the hotel to designate a specific section for breakfast diners, equipped with appropriate dining tables to enhance the overall experience.

🍽️ On a brighter note, the variety of breakfast options was delightful. The spread included a range of cereals, fruits, yoghurts, toasts, bagels, and even waffles, which my partner particularly enjoyed.

Included was also a hot buffet available, though the selection was somewhat limited and the quality did not meet our expectations.

The hash browns were disappointingly tough, resembling cardboard in texture, and the bacon was cold and dry, suggesting it had been sitting out for a while.

Breakfast is served from:

  • 6am – 10pm Monday – Friday
  • 6am – 10:30am Saturday and Sunday

Based on my experience, I would suggest seeking out a local café in town for a genuine classic Yorkshire breakfast rather than opting for the hotel’s breakfast. My overall rating of the breakfast at Moxy Hotel would be a 2 out of 5 rating.

Does Moxy Hotel Have Parking?

Unfortunately, Moxy Hotel does not provide on-site parking facilities.

For those in need of parking, I suggest the nearby Q-Parking multistory Car Park, conveniently situated just next door to the hotel.

It’s a mere 300 yards from the main entrance, making it an ideal parking solution. Q-Park ensures secure parking with overnight options available at a fair rate.

Please bare in mind that all pricing can change due to seasonal travelling, dates and events. Check availability and latest prices here.

We visited early January over the weekend for a one night stay. We chose a large double bed room ( Moxy Queen Sleeper ) which included breakfast.

I booked through booking.com for the best rates and we opted for the non-refundable room for cheaper value. The total cost of the room came to £106.

💰 In my opinion, the pricing was quite fair. The cost covered breakfast for two, which would have been £15 on its own. You have the option to not book breakfast, if so the price drops slightly to under £100.

Considering the hospitable staff, the cleanliness and upkeep of the rooms, along with the entertainment provided by the bar, this hotel stands out as a place worth staying while in York.

My experience has been very different to yours.
The cost for one night was £160without breakfast which the hotel wanted extra for.
When enquiring about the cost we were told that it was cheaper to book earlier which is not the case! There were 20 spare rooms when we arrived at £84 per night.
The rooms are very small as well as the shower room. The Premier Inn is much preferrable in my opinion. I would not recommend the Moxy in York
