It’s sad to see that a warm, friendly place like Riverside Farm is shutting down.
Located at Shipton Rd, YO30 1XJ, the pub is well known by York residents and will be especially missed but what does the future hold for the plot of land?
When Does Riverside Farm Close?
16th September 2024, the family-friendly, Greene King pub, Riverside Farm closed it’s doors for the final time. Regular and nearby visitors seemed to be upset at the latest changes, as well as confused as to what has been decided for the future.
Riverside was rated a 4-star restaurant by Tripadvisor, with 625 people rating it a 5, in recent months.
It was clearly loved and could affect nearby businesses relying on Riverside Farms foot traffic.
What The Future Holds?
Fear not, as Greeneking has declared their plans to turn their restaurant into a well known American dinner, Hickarys Smokehouse.
People were shocked to find that it would be turned American, and some were excited about something new.
I’m personally glad that they are making use of the old building and making it into something new and wonderful, and maybe even bring up the reputation, making it into 5 stars restaurant again.
What is Hickary’s Smokehouse?
Hickorys is an American diner that serves Western US-style food and drinks.
They have positions already in large cities like Leeds and Wakefield and are known for having good service and good meals.
The first opening was in 2010 in Chester and has been serving authentic, delicious food since, like ribs, steak, chicken, pasta, burgers, and many more.
Hickorys can hopefully surprise Riverside regulars and show them that they can make this site great again.

Final thoughts
I’m sure we’re all sad to see that Riverside Farm has closed down, but at least it’s being replaced by an establishment that can do just as well as they could, if not, better.
I am sure we’ll all remember Riverside Farm as a great place but it’s time for a new start and a new style. Let’s wish Hickorys good luck for its opening.
Here are some more photos I took during my visit to the old Riverside Farm. I’ll be sharing new images of Hickory’s Smokehouse once it opens.
