Cats are a beautiful addition to any household and are much loved by lots of people, of all ages.

🐱 So today, I was able to visit the Cats Whiskers Cat Cafe, located at 46 Goodramgate, York YO1 7LF.

This is a great experience for anyone, especially if you are unable to get a cat for yourself, the cats at the cafe are there for everyone to enjoy.

First Impressions

Cat cafe york inside

When I first approached the cafe, I felt very welcomed by the cool but cozy exterior, with the small but cute cat logo, getting me ready for the fun I was ready to have.

A kind staff member let us into the waiting room after we gave her the name and time of our booking.

The waiting room was just like the exterior, and as I would soon come to realize, so was the rest of the shop.

🐈 While I was waiting to be led into the actual cafe, a white cat called Snowy came to sit on my lap, which proved to be a wholesome moment before the cat chaos began.

My Experience

The cafe was calm, with lots of cats roaming around, playing with the various toys that were laid about, and climbing on all of the equipment.

We decided to take a seat upstairs as the downstairs was very hectic due to most of the cats being downstairs, but upstairs, we found an old cat, whom after a small introduction from one of the staff members, we found out was called Bear.

The staff members were all kind, and came around, telling us stories about all of the cats and asking how we were.

What I Ordered

I ordered a double chocolate brownie for £3.25 with an apple and raspberry smoothie for £3.50, and the friend I was visiting with ordered a red velvet cake for £3.95, and the same smoothie as myself.

The brownie was rich in flavor and quite a filling choice despite it being small.

It was soft with chunks of delicious white chocolate chunks spread throughout its interior and was a perfect chocolatey delicacy to go with my sweet and refreshing smoothie.

It was cold and had a sweet but sour taste and a thick and stuffing texture. They went perfectly together as a sugary treat to accompany the fun we had.

My Favourite Cats

  • Bear – Bear is a black cat and the cat at the cafe, and had recently suffered a stroke which makes him a bit wobbly, but nonetheless, cute. He is rumored to be getting adopted soon and will hopefully have a good time at his new home.
  • Pumpkin – Pumpkin is a cheeky orange cat who likes to steal your food while you’re not looking, and sometimes likes to scratch if you’re not careful.
  • Snowy – Snowy normally makes her appearance in the waiting room to welcome you and give you a small teaser on what’s to come. She’s pure white to reference her name and is a gorgeous sight.
  • Marley – Marley is Bear’s wife and will be accompanying him to the new home, she often came up to me so I could pet her, and unlike her sleeping husband, was rather active.

Things To Know Before Visiting

  • Booking is required to enter and is £8 per person, no walk-ins allowed.
  • Your cats are not allowed inside the shop.
  • people with cat allergies shouldn’t visit.
  • You can take pictures, but it has to be without flash as it scares the cats.

To summarize, the cat cafe serves some great trees and houses some beautiful cats.

The experience is a great thing to try if you are a cat lover and I would definitely recommend trying it out and if you don’t like cats, maybe you can warm up to them.
