I wanted to try something different, so, instead of our regular blogs we decided to test our brains at Locked in Escape Rooms at Club Chambers, Museum Street, York.
With only 1 hour to escape the Rags to Riches themed room join us to find out if we made it out or if I’m typing this from a locked room!
What Is Locked In Games?
Locked In Games is a company that created fun and engaging escape rooms for any age (under 14 must be accompanied by an adult) with many different themed room from “Caught in the Act” to “The Boneyard Cemetery”.
It was established in 2018 and also has an alternative location in Leeds at 2 Chapeltown Rd, Leeds LS7 3AP.
My First Impressions at Locked In Games York
When we first arrived, I thought we had walked into the wrong place! It appeared to be an accountancy office until we saw the signs instructing us to ring the doorbell.
After a short wait, a staff member appeared and asked us to come through, advising us to use the toilets.
We were then guided to the waiting room to discuss the health and safety procedures. The waiting room was small with 2 sofas, as well as black cards with phrases covering the wall, we believed these were to take photos with after.
At this point, the adrenaline kicked in. The team provided us with guidelines on what to explore and what to avoid.
They also explained the mechanics of the locks and ensured that we were comfortable with being fully locked in the room.
They reassured us that if we felt uncomfortable at any point, we could simply call out to them to be let out.
Our Escape Room: Rags To Riches
Out of the 3 themes to choose from we chose “Rags To Riches” as it felt like a real life scenario and i thought we could really connect with the story.
My Description of the Story: “You’ve learned that you are the heir to a substantial inheritance from an old lady who lived across the road. However, before you can claim this fortune, you must prove your worth. There’s a catch: the court has approved the demolition of the property. You have just one hour to find the riches before the house and your dreams are destroyed.”
When we walked into the room all the furniture was old, ripped and pale. This really gave the rags atmosphere they were going for.
You can have upto 6 people in the room but we only had 4 which were perfect. I allowed us to separately look for clues without standing on each others toes.
How challenging Are The Puzzles?
Most of our tasks were self-explanatory, like deciphering codes and finding numerical sequences to unlock the next clue, although some of the tasks made us feel like giving up.
In those situations, we were lucky to be able to wave at the camera and humbly ask for help. The clues appeared on a main screen in our first room without these I don’t think we would have completed it.
We escaped the room with only 3 minutes remaining. Lucky!
How Much Did It Cost and Was It Worth It?
The game was £72 for 4 people, making it £18 per person.
Compared to other group activities it can be seen as expensive especially if you complete the room incredibly fast.
What your paying for is it individuality, you can only do this in select places and you can see how much effort has been put into putting this amazing escape room together.
I will definitely be returning next year to try my luck/ skill in another room.
