Cheap Places To Stay Near York Races

If you’re planning a trip to York Races and are looking for affordable accommodation options, you’re in luck.

Whether you prefer the cozy charm of a guest house, or the traditional feel of an inn, there’s something to suit everyone’s taste and budget.

Diamonds Guest House

With in-room tea/coffee facilities, free wifi, parking, and room service, Diamonds Guest House offers a lot of bang for your buck.

Cleanliness is top-notch, as are the staff, and you won’t need to journey very far to get to the races or other attractions — it’s just 0.9 miles from York Racecourse, 0.75 miles from Cliffords Tower, and 0.87 miles from Grand Opera House.

I recommend heading to the park (a minute’s walk away) or enjoying the on-site garden for a bit of fresh air before heading home.

The Saddle Inn

Heading to the races with kids in tow? I suggest staying at The Saddle Inn; it had everything my family needed.

The rooms are pretty basic and lack much decoration, but they’re clean and you’re afforded tea/coffee facilities, a wardrobe, and a flat-screen TV as standard.

Beyond the rooms, there’s a pub downstairs with friendly staff, great food, and a well-maintained pool table to keep the adults entertained. You won’t have to worry about your children getting bored though — the hotel boasts an outside playground!

Grange Lodge

Grange Lodge is a guest house run by a friendly family and comes with a view of the city and on-site parking.

Its lovingly decorated, ultra-clean rooms give it a “home from home” vibe and its location makes it easy to explore the city, visit the Dales, and, of course, get to the races.

The larger rooms boast a luxurious feel without the luxury price tag. I couldn’t fault my stay, the staff, environment, comfort level, and value for money were exceptional.
The only downside is it books up super quickly.

Safestay York Micklegate

Unarguably one of the cheapest hostels in the country, Safestay York Micklegate is less than a mile from the racecourse and boasts excellent value for money.

Check in is super easy, and despite its “hostel” status, I booked a private room which was surprisingly comfy!

Depending on who’s staying, it can be a little rowdy at times. But generally speaking, most guests settle quickly so everyone gets a good night’s sleep. Just keep in mind that there aren’t any elevators, you’ll be lugging your bags up a few flights of stairs.

Brentwood Guest House

Hotel beds aren’t usually rated highly for comfort, but Brentwood Guest House is different. This family run guest house’s beds are incredibly comfy, and I’m not the only one who thinks that it’s one of the most mentioned aspects in other people’s reviews, too. 

Beyond that, all the rooms are tastefully decorated, thoroughly cleaned, and come complete with ensuite bathroom facilities, hairdryers, free wifi, TVs, and tea/coffee facilities.

Clifton Bridge Guest House

Granted, this one is a little pricier than the others I’ve mentioned so far, but it’s worth it.

Situated just 500 metres from a spa and restaurant, it’s perfect for adding a bit more luxury into your races experience.

All rooms come with free wifi, tea/coffee facilities, private bathrooms, and flat-screen TVs. Plus, you don’t have to worry parking it’s on site and free.

My favourite part is the full English breakfast. You receive one every morning and the price is included in the room fee. Yep, free breakfast! What’s not to love?

Best Western Kilima Hotel

Despite being a large chain, the three-star Best Western Kilima Hotel provides a cosy atmosphere and knowledgeable, friendly staff who make every stay feel personal.

On the site, you’ll find leisure facilities (indoor swimming pool and gym), breakfast bar, and private parking, but beyond its boundaries there’s an 18-hole golf course with pro shop golf facilities that’s well worth a visit.

If you’re staying on the ground floor, just know that it can grow quite noisy in the morning when people start heading to breakfast. That said, this won’t be a problem for early risers!
